Dear Parents,
We ask that you please assess your student’s health each morning before sending them to school. It will be better for your family and the school for the student to stay home rather than be sent home. Please err on the side of caution.
In the instance of a fever, the student must stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications. A temperature over 100 degrees is considered a fever.
The symptoms a student could be sent home for include:
Fever or chills
Diarrhea
Nausea or vomiting
If a student presents with a combination of the following symptoms- we will ask for the student to be taken home :
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Cough
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
During the 2024-2025 school year, Calumet will continue to evaluate our COVID-19 protocols to reflect current public health guidance.
The protocols are summarized below:
The school nurse or office staff will evaluate symptomatic students. Students will be sent home based on the severity of their symptoms and/or the presence of a fever.
Students may return to school when they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and their symptoms have improved.
If a student or member of our staff tests positive for COVID-19, they should consult their medical provider for guidance. Families and staff should use good judgment when determining when to return to school or work after any illness, consistent with our current illness policy.
Masks are optional for staff, students, and visitors during the school day and at school-sponsored events.
